Berkeley High School students were invited to the Bakar BioEnginuity Hub in November to explore potential careers in STEM and entrepreneurship. Staff and faculty presentations were followed by hands-on activities and, of course, a fun pizza break!

Among the presenters was Bakar Faculty Fellow Dr. Daniela Kaufer, Associate Professor in the Department of Integrative Biology and the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute at UC Berkeley. Her Bakar Fellow project focused on preventing the development of epilepsy in people who suffered brain injuries. She applied her problem-solving expertise and passion for helping patients to her lesson plan for the students. Not only did the students get to practice their teamwork and problem-solving skills, but they learned more about the human brain and how blending science with entrepreneurship has the power to change lives for the better.
