There are few greater honors than being recognized as one of the top scientists in the world by an internationally-recognized, prestigious organization. But we know someone who deserves such an honor.

Bakar Fellow Ting Xu was recently recognized as a recipient of the Falling Walls Science Breakthrough of the Year Award for her groundbreaking research on enzyme-embedded polymers that allow for the biodegradation of plastics without resulting in environmentally-destructive microplastics. With our increasing dependance on plastics despite its known hazards to human and environmental health, this discovery was a crucial step towards protecting future generations.

As an award recipient, Ting Xu was also invited to Berlin as one of the Science Summit Speakers. Check out her speech below!
