Intropic Materials, founded from Innovation Fellow Aaron Hall and Faculty Fellow Ting Xu‘s research, was selected as part of the Biomimicry Institute’s 2022 cohort of Ray of Hope finalists. These “biomimetic,” or bio-inspired, companies were selected for their incredible potential to fight urgent problems facing the climate and biodiversity.

The issue Intropic Materials is tackling is one that is well known to any conscious consumer: plastic waste. By embedding enzymes (which they refer to as “nature’s chemists”) in plastics, they were able to successfully accelerate their degradation. The best part is that the final product is biodegradable and chemically recyclable, leaving behind no microplastics.

This recognition is well-deserved! Check out the full list of finalists here.
